Conan Exiles – PS4 Review

Conan Exiles burst out of early access and onto console and PC on the 8th may and at Stoffel Presents we have been putting Conan through its paces to see just what the barbarian has to offer gamers… Unfortunately, if you have played Ark: Survival Evolved then Conan really doesn’t offer anything new.
Story

Ark: Survival Evolved Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game set in the brutal lands of Conan the Barbarian. Survive in a savage world, build your kingdom, and dominate your enemies in brutal combat and epic warfare.
Start with nothing but your bare hands and forge the legacy of your clan, building anything a small home to gigantic fortresses and entire cities. Wage war using swords, bows, siege weapons, and even take control of giant avatars of the gods and lay waste to enemy cities.
Explore a vast, seamless world full of challenge and opportunity. Hunt animals for resources, slay monsters for treasure and delve deep underground to discover the secrets of ancient civilizations.
Ark: Survival Evolved Conan Exiles can be experienced in both local single-player and in persistent online multiplayer.
Gameplay
Ark: Survival Evolved Conan Exiles plays exactly how you would expect an ark clone to play. There is nothing really new here. replace dinosaurs with slaves and you have the game.
Crafting, building, fighting etc is all the same as Ark it even has some of the same problems as Ark albeit not as bad. On its release Ark: Survival Evolved was almost unplayable at times on the PlayStation 4. Whilst the problems are not as bad for Conan Exiles although it does suffer from freezing during combat which leads to death or pauses that last a couple of seconds.
Graphics
The Art Style in Ark: Survival Evolved Conan Exiles is somewhat bland at times but then there isn’t really much you can do with a desert setting. The dungeons such as the depths are impressive and foreboding. The use of lighting in the depths is wonderful and effective.
Graphically Conan Exiles is a solid looking game it isn’t going to blow you away with its jaw-dropping vistas but at the same time neither is it below par.
The biggest problem with Conan Exiles graphics is that the UI has been ported from the PC to PS4, therefore the writing is so small that most of the time it is unreadable and the UI is almost unusable with a pad when it is so blatantly designed to be used with a mouse.
Overall
Conan Exiles is just way too much like Ark: Survival Evolved to be considered on its own merit. It brings hardly anything new to the survival game genre and does absolutely nothing to stand out on its own.
All in All Conan Exiles is a massive timesink that we no longer have the desire or compunction to delve into further
Overall Score 3/10
