Microbrits: A Tapestry of the British Games Industry is a brand new book from the author S.L Perrin. It is a beautiful love letter to the golden age of British gaming. Covering 15 legendary studios over 40 years it is a beautiful trip down memory lane.
Not only is Microbrits: A Tapestry of the British Games Industry a passionate recounting of some of the greatest British game studios of all time but it is a wonderful insightful view behind the scenes.
The studio’s covered within in the book include such legendary names as Ocean, U.S Gold, Psygnosis and many more.
On a personal note, all of the studios covered within the book hold a special place in my heart. The nostalgia invoked just by reading the chapter heading was unreal. S.L Perrin does an amazing job of diving into the makeup of these studios. What made them successful and in some cases, what brought about their demise.
Some amazing stories are brought to life. Such as if Elvis Presley hadn’t of died on August 16th 1977 we probably would never have had U.S Gold. Without U.S Gold we may never have actually had the movie tie- in genre of games. It is a bizarre anecdote that I had never heard before and is just one of many in the career of Geoff Brown.
Microbrits: A Tapestry of the British Gaming Industry is packed full of these anecdotes, facts and Stories of some of the most legendary names in British Gaming.
As a 30+-year-old gamer, this book is a definite must own. It invokes such nostalgia and childhood memories. Delves deeper into everything your childhood holds dear and expands on it.

The history of these legendary gaming studios is so interweaved and crisscrosses it would be easy for any record of them to become complicated and convoluted.
S.L Perrin does an amazing job of unfolding these tales in a concise and understandable manner whilst maintaining a level of passion that is infectious.
At no point in Microbrits: A Tapestry of the British Gaming Industry do you feel lectured at. In fact, if anything you feel like you are having a chat with a passionate gamer like yourself.
A labour of love that is researched, edited and written by S.L Perrin Microbrits: A Tapestry of the British Games Industry is an absolute joy to read and I can’t profess how much you need to own this book.
Priced at just £10 for the physical copy or £4 for the Kindle version. In fact, if you have kindle unlimited it is free! So there really is no reason not to find out for yourself just why I love this book so much.
