PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden has announced via the Playstation Blogcast that there will be no Playstation Experience press conference (PSX) in 2018. The conference is usually the week after The Game Awards in December and showcases a lot of the biggest games coming to Playstation platforms. Usually there are a few brand new games announced during the show, many of which have been PS4 exclusives. Shawn Layden says that they don’t have any new announcements to make this year to make it worthwhile holding a PSX conference.
Shawn Layden quotes taken from the Playstation Blogcast:
“For 2018, I know this is going to be a disappointment to some people, but we decided to not hold PlayStation Experience this year.”
“We won’t have it in the States this year. The reasons behind that really are we don’t have…we have a lot of progress that we’re making on our games…Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down into 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone.
“But we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on that. It was a hard decision, but we have determined that this year we will not hold PlayStation Experience.”
