Straight off the bat, I need to warn you that Redeemer: Enhanced Edition by Sobaka is gratifyingly gory, beautifully brutal, crazily chaotic and satisfyingly sickening! Bloody hell I love this game!
I had no idea what to expect when I started up Redeemer: Enhanced Edition for the first time and I can honestly say that I have loved every second of this mad title. Redeemer is best described as a homage to the late 80’s early 90’s action films.
Think Sylvester Stallone/Arnold Schwarzenegger levels of body counts and action and you get some understanding of where the pure unadulterated joy lies in Redeemer: Enhanced Edition.
In Redeemer: Enhanced Edition you play as Vasiliy, an elite agent who previously worked for the largest cybernetics weapons manufacturer in the world. At some point, the company turned against him, and it was only with a great deal of luck that he was able to escape to a remote monastery deep in the mountains. For 20 years, he sought to find peace and harmony with the monks, but know the company has found him and given him the opportunity to settle old debts.
That is all the story Redeemer: Enhanced Edition needs as you begin your journey from the monastery to the headquarters of the company slaughtering everything along the way in beautiful gore-drenched action.

The combat in Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is flawlessly free-flowing. From brutal punches, spinning kicks, whipping out a pistol to unload a few rounds then caving someone’s head in with a sledgehammer. The controls are intuitive and create combos effortlessly.
Stringing a badass combo together is instantly rewarded when you get the prompt to perform an execution. These range from ripping a soldiers throat out, taking his gun from him and unloaded the clip into his prone body or simply gut-punching him to the floor and stamping on his head till it pops.
Redeemer: Enhanced Edition goes further than pairing up effortless combos with unapologetic gore. It combines these aspects with mental environmental kills that will make you shout out in joy and wince at the sheer savagery of Vasiliy in action.
The environmental kills include: Spearing soldiers on to tree branches, Putting out fires with the faces of your enemies, Throwing their bodies into jet engines and slicing them up with a bandsaw…just to name a few.
It isn’t all death and dismembering in Redeemer: Enhanced Edition. There is a small RPG element too. The more you use your punches and kicks the quicker they level up and unlock new perks such as pouncing out of a roll or adding lightning to your punches and fire to your kicks.

There is also five types of gun that level up with use and additional perks such as longer range, penetration of enemies or more ammo to help you deliver more death swifter and mercilessly. Each level also has manuscripts that grant you a point to level up any skill you want instantly.
With 15 levels to Redeemer: Enhanced Edition it is possible to complete the story in a few hours. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as there are scrolls to collect on each level that unlock concept art. Levelled up skills remain in place and you can pick any chapter in the story as you hunt down all the scrolls.
There are also two arena maps to play where you a simply in the middle of the room taking on wave after wave of enemies. Oh and couch co-op. Yep. Redeemer: Enhanced Edition, with all its fun, gore and over the top action can be enjoyed with a friend.
All in all Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is an absolute joy to play. Yes, it isn’t going to be applauded for its deep story and narrative twists but it doesn’t have to be. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I had such unadulterated fun playing a game.
Sitting down to write this review I knew Redeemer: Enhanced Edition would be getting a solid nine out of ten. But now I have got to the score section of the review and haven’t mentioned a single negative about the game. Honestly, I can’t think of one.
15 chapters give a decent length to Redeemer: Enhanced Edition. There is a wide range of melee weapons and a decent range of guns. The level-up system is basic but fits the game well. Load times are not overly long. Honestly, I can’t pick fault. In that case, there is only one score I can give it…
Overall Score – 10/10
Redeemer: Enhanced Edition is no high brow, deep narrative emotional journey and it doesn’t pretend to be. It is a no holds barred gorefest that delivers everything it sets out to do. Hours of solo or couch co-op fun. A must buy for any gamer.
