Sega have just announced that the Shining series is finally returning to the West with Shining Resonance Re:frain, a remastered port of the PS3 title Shining Resonance which only released in Japan.  It is realeasing this Summer on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch & PC.

It is a third person action Japanese role playing game where you play as Yuma, who has the soul of the Shining Dragon within him, transforming into the ancient beast by unleashing the power conducted through his sword.  The Dragons, long thought to be extinct, captures Yuma and wants to use his powers against the Empire.  Sonia, princess of Astoria,  and the Dragoneers launch a rescue mission to save Yuma.  As Yuma you have to realise the power within you to stand up and fight against the Dragons and their plight against the land of Astoria.

In addition to all of the original’s DLC, now included as part of the base “Original Mode,” Shining Resonance Refrain packs a new “Refrain Mode,” unlocking the Imperial Princess Excella and Dragonslayer Jinas as party members for a new experience – just be sure to save this for your second playthrough to avoid any spoilers!

Combat is in real time and you can switch between characters in your party on the fly plus combine their powers for special team “Resonance” attacks that deal massive damage.  The art style looks typical of Japanese role players, with striking colourful anime style visuals and characters.  Will it offer anything unique to make it stand above other similar games in the genre though?

We will do our best to answer that question as more information lands on our desk as we get closer to the game’s release this summer.
