EGX Rezzed is the celebration of the best indie titles that are due for release over the next 12 months or so and this years event had some amazing games available to play. Some of the titles displayed I have been following for a while but there were a few I have never heard of before.
Below is a list (in no particular order) of my favourite games from EGX Rezzed:
Tyred
Tyred is an amazing, fun and colourful party battle game that’s pick up and play gameplay and short levels make it accessible to everybody.
Up to 4 players take on the role of a car tyre in a small arena and have a very simple objective to complete such as landing on a pole, jumping into a cup etc. The concept of the game is incredibly simple but achieving the objective is incredibly hard.
The laughter, competitiveness and random items make this an absolute must for some good old fashioned couch battle fun.
Tyred is available to purchase on steam now!
Spectrum Retreat
The Spectrum Retreat is an engaging and absorbing puzzle game that uses colour in wonderful ways to solve a myriad of puzzles. The demo we played was, without doubt, a love letter from developer Dan Smith to Portal and takes massive influence from the puzzle classic.
The Spectrum Retreat is set for summer 2018 release
Steel Rats
Steel Rats is a visceral and groundbreaking evolution of the 2.5D action arcade genre, fusing destructive, octane-fuelled motorbike combat and death-defying stunt gameplay, set in a visually stylised retro-future world.
Taking inspiration from Ghost Rider and Biker Mice from Mars, Steel Rats is set for a 2018 release on all platforms.
Space Station Continuum
Space Station Continuum was personally a standout title at EGX Rezzed 2018. The graphics reminded me of the original X-Com game, one of the favourite games of my childhood.
Gameplay wise it is truly genius. Starting in the 1970’s you are tasked with building and running a space station whilst researching new technology to upgrade and advance your station with the goal of becoming self-sufficient in space before building a ship capable of colonising Mars.
Taking inspiration from games such as Kerbal Space Programme and Jurrasic Park Genesis, Space Station Continuum is definitely a game to keep an eye out for when it releases in 2018.
Kenshi
Kenshi is an ambitious, sandbox world that really challenges its players. With no end goal in the game, you quite simply live out the lives of your characters. Starting from a single character to eventually running a crew of brigands.
A free-roaming squad-based RPG. Focusing on open-ended sandbox gameplay features rather than a linear story. Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave, or just food for the cannibals. Research new equipment and craft new gear.
With so much available to do and explore such as, build cities, diplomacy with factions, deal with lifelong injuries to your character etc, Kenshi boasts one of the longest amounts of game time racked up in early access.
Hyper Sentinel
Hyper Sentinel is a game I have been following for almost a year now. The scrolling retro shooter invokes masses of nostalgia and comes from the legendary Huey Games.
At first look this colourful, arcade, Bulletstorm looks simple enough but it isn’t until you get hands-on with the game that you realise the depth and layers to the game. It is this depth and difficulty that will keep you coming back for more as you develop new tactics to deal with the onslaught.
Hyper Sentinel is out on console and PC on May 11th and you can order an awesome cassette tape USB version now over on the website
This is just the first of our overview of the games on offer at this years EGX Rezzed and we will be bringing more to you over the coming days along with in-depth reviews but in the meantime why not let us know what were your favourite games of EGX Rezzed 2018?
